Abstract

Poly(1,4-cycrohexane dimethylene carbonate) glycol (PCHC) has a quite rigid structure compared with poly(1,6-hexamethylene carbonate) glycol, and is an amorphous state. The purpose of this study is to clarify the effect of the PCHC on the mechanical properties of the PUs. The PUs were synthesized from a mixture of PCHC with copolymerized polycarbonate glycol (C4/C6=50/50) and 2,4-tolylene diisocyanate. With an increasing the PCHC content, Young's modulus and tensile strength of the PUs increased. Above 30 wt% of the PCHC content, stress-strain curves for the PUs showed typical ones for elastomers. These results imply that the PCHC played a special role like hard segment component.
