Abstract

Acoustic Emission (AE) characteristics of deteriorated Reinforced Concrete (RC) beams were investigated with the aim of obtaining fundamental information on the applicability of the AE technique to soundness diagnosis of RC structures. Investigation was conducted by means of bending tests on RC beam specimens exposed to marine environments for 23 years. The Kaiser effect was observed up to yielding of rebars regardless of the degree of deterioration. It was confirmed that the rate-process analysis could evaluate the conditions inside the deteriorated RC beams.
