    Abstract

A ruthenium tris(2,2′-bipyridine)-viologen linked thiol derivative was prepared, and the monolayer assembly of the mixture of this compound and hexadecanethiol was fabricated on a gold surface. In the presence of triethanolamine, the modified gold electrode with this compound showed clear photocurrent responses ascribed to the ruthenium complex sensitized photoredox cycles with the viologen moiety as the mediator.
