Abstract
We designed a polymer-peptide conjugate as a gene carrier, which consists of uncharged main chain and cationic peptide side chain. This peptide side chain contained the substrate peptide sequence for HIV-I protease and cationic peptide sequence. This cationic carrier interacted with anionic DNA, leading to polyion-complex. On the other hand, this carrier released the DNA from the complex due to the cleavage of cationic portion from the peptide side chain by virus protease. In this report, we assayed function of this carrier in cell free system.
