Abstract

The π-Conjugated polymers containing the metal complexes of phen and bpy were said to be promising functional materials. However, the metal complex forming reactivity of these polymers and the optical properties of their metal complexes were not extensively analyzed, especially for non-substituted pphen, due to its poor solubility in organic solvents. Recently, soluble arylene ethynylene type π-conjugated polymers consisting of the phen unit and related low molecular compounds were synthesized, and their highly luminescent properties in solutions were revealed. This paper reports the preparation of a new, soluble phen-containing π-conjugated polymer 1 and its low molecular model compound 2, and their optical properties tuned by metal complexation.
