Abstract

We propose a new index for indicating the fatigue state of a cell under reciprocative stress test. By using an input signal of square wave for cell position control, we impart an extremely high shear stress to a cell. We conducted the fatigue test on red blood cells (RBCs), and the shape of each RBC is observed while reciprocated motion is given. The results show that the shape of cell tail is eventually changed from concave to convex. Based on the observed phenomenon, the tail curvature is proposed as a new index for cell fatigue state.
