Abstract

A discussion on a concept of physical distribution system that makes use of advantages of ship transportation so as to support the recycle-based society, presented at the 15th International Offshore and Polar Engineering Conference (Seoul, Korea 6/19-24/2005), covers evaluation of the industrial waste transportation by shipping through the calculation of CO2 emissions by conducting mathematical programming model; subject of industrial waste transportation; classification of industrial waste and some typical examples (engine oil, machine oil, asphalt, tar pitch, etc.); amount of CO2 emissions from industrial sector; CO2 emissions by transportation modes (e.g., road and private truck transportation); and the scheme of Japanese government measures against the global warming gases.
