Abstract
In recent years, the high functionalization of liquid crystals by the addition of nanoparticles have been reported. In the case of nematic liquid crystal doped with metal nanoparticles such as Pd and Ag, their electro-optical characteristics changed drastically by a variation in frequency of the applied electric voltage. Additionally, those systems exhibited a high speed electro-optic response by using dual frequency driving mode. However, in many cases the mechanisms for the advancement in properties of liquid crystals have remained to be fully elucidated. In this study, we prepared various surface-modified nanoparticles and investigated the electro-optical properties of nematic phase and blue phase in which the nanoperticles are dispersed.
