Abstract
Recently, the temperature range of blue phases was successfully extended to more than 100 K in polymer/liquid crystal composite systems. However, the mechanism of stabilization is not understood yet. In this study, the twin type molecule with two characters, liquid crystal nature and non-liquid crystal nature, was newly synthesized, and it added into blue phases. Such the molecule can be expected to stabilize the interface between the ordered region and the defect in BP. The influence of the addition of the twin type molecule on the temperature range of blue phases was investigated.
