Abstract
Satellite altimetry has shown to be very useful for describing offshore variations in sea surface height. Consequently, the use of satellite altimetry to study coastal areas has increased. In the present review, the inherent difficulties associated with the use of satellite altimetry in coastal areas are illustrated, and recent progress in overcoming these problems is discussed.
