Abstract
Relationship between auditory impression and onomatopoeic representations was examined by psychoacoustical experiments. Multi-dimensional scaling of auditory imageries of twenty onomatopoeic words obviously showed the relationship between onomatopoeic features and duration, pitch and consonance of sound. Prolonged sound represented long duration. Vowel /i/ was associated with high pitch. Voiceless consonants were associated with consonant impression and voiced consonants were associated with dissonance.
