Abstract
The direction of product design is dictated by market needs and new techology, however it is also restricted by manufacturing process. Designer can use computers as design tools to creat a 3D object's data, taking full advantage of 3D object data bases. Computer precossing realises the situation where a designer can simulate an object's image on screen. 3D object data processing either by surfase modeling or solid modeling will be a core element in these design processes. Designer will be able to produce layout, object design and variaties of that design using the data base. Finalised design data can be used toward the next process, machanical engineering and can also be used as CG or DTP data. We tried to illustrate the concept and theory of Computer Aided Industrial Design with some practical examples. The next stage will be to create original objects with transformable attributes by dynamic design simulation and a human interlace design for CAID system.
