Abstract
Optical-fiber communication systems have been adopted to deliver video data at high bit rates for professional use. In such professional video delivery systems, each broadcast station needs to edit video data and frequency clock synchronization between broadcast stations is required. For synchronization, a synchronous network such as ATM was adopted into video delivery systems for traditional professional use. In order to achieve a sufficient guaranteed bandwidth and low packet delay variation using Ethernet, we propose a new transmission frame that consists of fix-sized Ethernet packets and a fixed-sized inter-frame gap (IFG). Furthermore, we propose applying a new synchronization method with monitoring the change of IFG length. In this proposed synchronization method, the results showed that the synchronization accuracy is < 0.1 ppm.
