Abstract

Polymer stabilized blue phases (PSBP)1 are achieved through the formation of polymer network (PN) alongthe disclination lines in blue phases (BPs). However, the problem of PSBP for application to display devicesis the operating voltage higher than that of pure BPs, due to the anchoring effect of the PN in BPs. It isimportant to form the optimum PN structure in BPs in order to decrease the operating voltage. In this study,we polymerized dodecyl methacrylate and dodecyl acrylate with fluorochrome-labeled monomer. Wewill report on the condensation behavior of polymer into disclination line of N* filled in theGrandjean-Cano wedge cell as a model of the disclination of BPs by using confocal laser scanningmicroscope.
