Abstract
(Polymer/liquid crystal) composite films in which a liquid crystal is filled as a continuous phase in a three-dimensional spongy polymer matrix show the light scattering-light transmission switching by the external electric field. In general, the light switching of the (polymer/liquid crystal) composite films is performed in the visible region. In this study, we investigated electro-optical properties of (polymer/liquid crystal) composite films including a dichroic dye which absorb the infrared light in the near infrared region. The high contrast switching was actually observed for the dichroic dyes doped (polymer/liquid crystal) composite films in the wavelength of 1300-1500 nm.
